▪️Many people like to cite the stat that the US lags in life expectancy while failing to acknowledge that the US jumps to 1st place for those who reach the age of 70. That’s when the US system, with its increased choice and quick access to care, really starts to shine compared to the rest of the world.
▪️The reason the US lags in overall life expectancy has little to do with healthcare. The US far outpaces most of the developed world in homicides, overdoses and accidents. These, along with higher levels of obesity and diabetes, translate into lower life expectancy, but that’s hardly the fault of the healthcare system or its price levels. But if you make it to old age, there’s no better care than in the US.
▪️There is much wrong with the US healthcare system, mostly due to govt involvement, but the reason for the high prices is quite simple. The US has essentially socialized the access to and payment of care while also keeping much of the free market aspect of choice and quick access to specialists. In other countries, they keep costs lower by limiting choice and rationing care through long wait times for certain procedures. In the US we want it all (everyone covered and also lots of choices and quick access) so costs are higher.
It’s just so wild to see these movements see saw, it feels like just yesterday that conservatives were boycotting Disney and the left was gloating.
Just incredible. After posting a meme blaming Charlie Kirk for his own murder, they post another a few hours later applauding Democrats for their civility.
Also, if you look at the Occupy Democrats timeline, their posts “denouncing political violence” were variations on “no one should be shot…BUT here’s a quote from Kirk showing he’s a terrible person.” Or sometimes they’d leave the first part out altogether and just attack him. There are no posts denouncing violence without qualifiers trying to gin up their base.
